Eligibility
The Wilson Housing Authority (WHA) will accept Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from March 11, 2024 at 7:00 am, until March 26, 2024 at 4:00 pm ET. This is the first time the waiting list has been open since it closed in February, 2021
There are two ways to apply while the waitlist is open:
- Pick up an application from the WHA administrative building, located at 301 Nash Street, Wilson, NC 27893
- Print the online paper application that will be available on the WHA website
Once the application has been completed, it must be either:
- Dropped off at the WHA drop box located outside of the housing authority’s administrative office, address mentioned above
- Postmarked by March 26, 2024 and mailed to the Wilson Housing Authority, 301 Nash Street E, Wilson, NC, 27893
- Emailed to [email protected]
- Faxed to (252) 291-0984
This waiting list has the following preferences:
- An applicant involuntarily displaced by a natural disaster declared by the President of the United States or permanently displaced by fire through no fault of their own
- An applicant who has actively served in the US military and has been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable
- An applicant who is homeless and is receiving case management support or is homeless as a result of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking or other dangerous or life-threatening conditions that relate to violence against the individual or a family member
- An applicant who is head of a working family that meets one of the following criteria:
- 1) Has worked an average of 20 hours a week or more for at least 11 months out of the last 12 months
- 2) Has been seasonally employed for no less than 2 years with their current employer and worked an average of 20 hours a week during the season
- 3) Is verifiably self-employed, according to Wilson Housing Authority policies
- 4) Is 62 years of age or older
- 5) Is a person with disabilities as defined by HUD
- All other applicants
250 applicants will be placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences
