4 Steps To Follow After Submitting Your Section 8 Waitlist Application
It's exciting that you have successfully submitted your application for Section 8, but there are still a few things to expect. To make sure that your application proceeds smoothly, take a look at these 4 typical steps after submitting your application.
1. Firstly you will receive a confirmation letter or postcard which states that the Housing Authority has got your pre-application form. A confirmation number will be immediately sent to you if you applied online. If you receive neither a letter nor a postcard several weeks after submitting your application, then you'd better contact your Housing Authority.
2. You will receive a waiting list confirmation letter after waiting several months or even a year somtimes. It tells you that your name has been added to the waiting list. Since the number you are assigned on the list is random, there's no guarantee how long you may have to wait before getting on the list.
3. Notice that if your mailing address is changed while you wait for your confirmation letter, you must inform the housing authority within 30 days. Otherwise, you may risk losing your name on the waiting list. If you fail to respond to letters from the Housing Authority at any time, they won't contact you again.
4.The Housing Authority will start to process your eligibility for Section 8 assistance when your name gets to the top of the waiting list. What they will check on include your background information, income eligibility, and criminal record. You can find out more about Section 8 eligibility to make sure you've met all the criteria when you get to the top of the list.
